March 2011
State announces new Orthophotography beginning spring 2011. Current plans call for the middle one-third of the state to be flown first, with the east or west half of the state being flown in 2012 and 2013. The deciding factor on what counties will be flown in 2012 and 2013 seems to be contingent on how many counties in the respective thirds will buy additional products.
The state is providing a standard 1' resolution with USGS Compliant LIDAR and DEMs, the same products offered in 2005. The buy ups are more extensive this time around offering more than just the higher 3" or 6" resolutions for a complete list see the WOOLPERT link at the end of article from POBonline.com.

Currently the plans for Owen County are to secure the funding for a 6" buy up for 2012.
More on what Owen County plans are for 2012 orthos as they develop.

Indiana Office of Technology Awards Statewide Mapping Contract to Woolpert
Woolpert announced it has been awarded a three-year, $4.6 million contract to provide 1-foot resolution orthophotography and elevation data for the entire state of Indiana.

“We are proud to partner with the Indiana Office of Technology (IOT) to develop a current, seamless statewide map that can be used across all agencies,” said Jeff Lovin, Woolpert senior vice president and director of geospatial services. “Using the latest in digital sensor technology, Woolpert will provide the geospatial services and high-accuracy imagery necessary to support economic growth and public safety throughout the state.”

“We recognize the relationship of high-quality geospatial data to positive economic development. Current, high-resolution ortho imagery data is critical as the foundation for all other geospatial data layers, and, thanks to several funding partners, we are very excited that we can refresh this data statewide,” commented Brian Arrowood, the state’s Chief Information Officer. “And the elevation data is key information that will support everything from flood modeling to transportation planning to asset inventorying.”

The imagery and elevation data will be used by numerous state agencies, and will be shared with county governments for use in applications such as tax assessment, property management, economic development and flood control analysis.

A north-to-south acquisition will be performed in 2011 to complete approximately 30 of the 92 counties. The remaining counties will be flown in 2012 and 2013. The statewide program will also include new U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) compliant light detection and ranging (LiDAR) elevation data for 82 of the 92 counties.

“Woolpert has completed many statewide mapping programs, but one of the most exciting aspects of the Indiana project is the way the data is being delivered to the state through an online data portal,” said Lovin. “In addition to improving communication during processing of the imagery, web-based delivery allows the state and its partners to realize the benefits of this investment much faster.”

Woolpert will work with the IOT to maintain the data portal, www.indianaimagery.com, for use in streamlining data review and project communication. This portal, built using a combination of open source and commercial off-the-shelf technology, will leverage service-oriented-architecture to web enable delivery of imagery and related mapping products to end users. The web portal will also serve as a primary source of information regarding the progress of the project.

December 2009

Owen County Parcel lines are now available on IndianaMap.org

On December 11, 2009, the four layers that provide county-based framework data (including address points, street centerlines, land parcels, and governmental boundaries) were updated.

The layers were compiled from data maintained by various county agencies in Indiana, as part of the IndianaMap Data Sharing Initiative between Indiana Geographic Information Council (IGIC), Indiana Office of Technology (IOT), Indiana Geographic Information Office (GIO), Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS), Indiana Geological Survey (IGS) and participating Indiana counties. The layers named "Address Points (IDHS)" and "Street Centerlines (IDHS)" can be found in the following folder: INFRASTRUCTURE > Roads. The layers named "Land Parcels (IDHS)" and "Government Boundaries (IDHS)" can be found in the following folder: DEMOGRAPHICS > Political & Other Boundaries.

NOTE: All four layers are also NOW AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD in ESRI Shapefile format.

NOTE: These new layers represent the third set of data harvested through the ongoing Data Sharing Initiative program by IDHS from local government sources in December 2009. As a preliminary data set, these data have not been completely quality control checked for completeness, accuracy or content and are provided for program demonstration purposes only. These partial data are provided "as-is" and are not to be used for any official or business purpose. Be sure to read the metadata for each layer.

NOTE -- SCALE DEPENDENT VIEWING: These datasets are not viewable at the full statewide extent. The intended scale of viewing for these data is approximately at the level of county, and trying to view these high-resolution layers at full statewide extent would greatly affect the performance of the map. The layers "Address Points (IDHS)" and "Street Centerlines (IDHS)" are only viewable on the map at a scale of 1:200,000 or smaller. The layer named "Address Points (IDHS)" is only viewable on the map at a scale of 1:100,000 or smaller. Users can determine which Indiana counties have contributed data by accessing the metadata documents for each layer.
